Monumentum is an architecture and design practice founded in 2024.
Based in Seoul, we are a group of young and passionate professionals operating across disciplines and scales.
Our practice is driven by one shared mission: to enhance our built environment through the works of serene and lasting impressions. The task at hand is not simple, as the only constant at play in our digitized world is the ever-accelerating pace of change. Nevertheless, we embrace the challenge head-on, aiming to steadily carry forward our work that fosters collective and individual memories through the medium of architecture. Upon this foundation, we aspire to create tangible spaces that evoke a sense of place and belonging, leaving a quiet yet profound resonance within the everyday landscape around us.
Our language of creativity is Exactitude. As a process of translating abstract ideas into physical reality, architecture is the manifestation of a series of processes where art, science, and engineering must be precisely integrated. With the ever-increasing complexity of the intersecting disciplines today, architectural design naturally follows an intricate and non-linear process.
We revel in close collaboration with creative professionals, and through deliberate and thoughtful iterations, we strive to meticulously refine designs with utmost precision.

모뉴멘텀은 2024년 가을에 설립된 건축 디자인 스튜디오입니다.
서울을 기반으로 디자인 영역의 다양한 분야와 규모를 넘나들며 작업하고 있습니다.
우리의 디자인은 하나의 공통된 목적의식에 기초합니다. 찰나에 사라지는 유행을 좇기보다 오랫동안 향유할 수 있는 시간의 가치를 디자인에 담아내고자 합니다. 변화가 일상이 되어버린 오늘날 이는 결코 손쉬운 목표가 아닙니다. 그럼에도 우리는 현시대를 정면으로 마주하며 건축을 매개로 개인과 공동체의 기억을 가꾸어 나갈 수 있는 작업을 묵묵히 이어가고자 합니다. 이를 토대로 고유의 장소성과 정서적 교감을 느낄 수 있는 공간을 만들어가며, 우리를 둘러싼 일상의 풍경 속에 잔잔하고 깊은 울림을 남기고자 합니다.
우리의 디자인 언어는 ‘정확성 Exactitude’입니다. 건축은 추상적인 아이디어를 물리적으로 구현시키는 구체화의 작업으로서 예술, 과학, 그리고 공학이 정교하게 융합되어야 하는 일련의 과정의 결과물입니다. 오늘날 점차 다양한 분야가 얼기설기 얽혀감에 따라 이를 아우르는 건축 디자인은 필연적으로 복잡하고 비선형적인 프로세스를 따릅니다. 우리는 창의적인 전문가들과의 긴밀한 협업을 반기며, 신중하게 반복되는 프로세스 속에서 우리의 디자인을 정교하게 다듬어 나가고자 합니다.

Sungjoon Hong AIA is the founder and principal of Monumentum. He earned his Master in Architecture II degree from Harvard Graduate School of Design in Cambridge, MA and Bachelor of Architecture degree from Sungkyunkwan University in Suwon, South Korea. He was the recipient of Dean’s Merit Scholarship at the GSD and Haeng Mok Grand Award at his alma mater. Prior to founding Monumentum, Sungjoon worked on a range of high-end residential, commercial, and cultural projects for offices in Seoul and New York. He is a registered architect in New York State.

홍성준은 하버드 건축대학원과 성균관대학교에서 건축학 석사 및 학사학위를 각각 취득하였다. 뉴욕과 서울에서 다년간 하이엔드 단독주택과 고택, 펜트하우스 및 상업시설의 신축설계와 레노베이션 작업을 담당했으며, 2024년 귀국 후 모뉴멘텀을 설립하였다. 미국 건축사 협회 정회원이며, 현재 성균관대학교와 광운대학교 건축학과 설계스튜디오에 출강 중이다.
